One of the things that I define as my inner circles is watching rated R movies alone. But not even all PG-13 movies are good for me. This grealy limits number of movies that I can watch.

But there are also those great, sober, pure movies out there. I was thinking it would be a good idea to get a list of such movies going.

Personally I can think of few.

King's Speech
Shanshank Redemption
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poet's Society
Sea Biscuit
One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest

Can you recommend any others?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

There are a lot of kung-fu / martial arts movies that don't have any sexual content. Ip Man and Jet Li's Fearless are two that I like a lot.

Also any anime by Hayao Myazaki is good (except for Princess Mononoke, maybe, although I think its PG-13 rating is only due to violence). Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are two of the best movies I've ever seen.

I'm sure I'll think of more later!

Your friend,
Absolution.

A Beautiful Mind
Glory
Signs
Slumdog Millionaire (very pretty lead actress, but no skin or sexual content)

Obviously this all depends upon taste, but I find these movies to be well made, inspirational, and clean. There are also a number of animated films (I never would have watched them if I didn't have kids) which I find wonderfully entertaining. They include:

Up
Ice Age (any of them)
Madagascar 2

I also would like a good list so hears a list of a few I liked.
Second hand lions. Pg good family movie. Possibly my all time favorite movie.
Thor. Dirtiest part? Thor takes off his shirt. Why can't we have more movies like that?
Megamind. It's a kids animated movie but trust me it's worth watching for adults too.
Inception. One of the best movies I have ever seen. And I don't remember it having any skin at all.
Jet li's fearless. As mentioned earlier this is an exilent movie with no skin just awesome action. And a very inspiring story line.
Lord of the rings. There are pretty elf ladies but they know how to cover up.
The princess bride. Probably the best low budget movie ever made. Also most classic and quotable movie ever made. Don't let the title fool you. Its good.
The green lantern. (notto be confused with the green hornet.) Pretty good. First 15 seconds shows a girls bare shoulder as she is asleep in bed. The rest is clean and the story is about the virtues of having strong will.
That is a good start on the list. I will add more As I think of them. Thanks for the list.

I love movies although I have to admit that I can't hardly stand the movie industry these days. I used to watch the Oscars religiously every year, not anymore. I guess I just don't like an awards show becoming a political pulpit. ( How did I end up going down this road?)

I could list thirty sober movies that I really like but I am instead only going to put down one. I put it down because for me it is very therapeutic and personally there is a lot of introspective theme to the movie.

Master and Commander

I don't know hardly anyone who would put this movie at the top of their list but it is certainly at the top of mine. First of all I like the tenor or rhythm of the movie. It has a kind of easy going pace with moments of real excitement and tension. (Like a major league baseball game) Second that period of history is amazing to me. England practically ruled the world with far flung colonies, all connected by the royal navy. It is an amazing feat really. The music is awesome!

But...what I like more than anything (and this is the introspective part) is the friendship between Captain Aubry and his ships surgeon Stephen. I am not a person who makes friends readily. It takes me a long time to develop a good friendship which means that, though I have very good friends they are very few in number. Also, I generally don't "hang out" or "do stuff" with friends often, at least not since high school. I am both inspired by Aubry and Stephens friendship and also it strikes a sad chord because I would like to develop several friendships of that sort. I was so impressed that I read the entire series of books by Patrick O Brian (20 or 21) in all. Of course the friendship is even further developed in the books. It is such a wholesome example. Aubry and Stephen love and respect each other but they don't meddle or mollycoddle. The friendship is very genuine and based on sound feelings and principles. I think if all of us could lay claim to this type of friendship then we would have many fewer addicts.

At any rate check it out if you are a fan of high seas historical fiction.

hi,
I would recommend a movie called INVICTUS.
I found it very inspiring, especially if you are trying to do something that seems virtually impossible like overcome this addiction

Fireproof
a good movie for married couples. deals with porn issues (very drasticly)
Lord of the rings

the grace card
a very good move that deals with racism, family issues, ect... clean movie appropriate for 11+. yes it is pg13, but thats cause there is violence(the main character is a police officer).
Battle los angeles
very good violent movie.great for people who like movies with violence and no sexual content. i think one of the reasons this is pg13, is cause the main character say f…!

Radio, nacho libre, and the harry potter movies are good. although the 7th harry potter movie has some brief nudity, the rest are fine-IwInsp
oh, and letters to God, it touches on alchohol addiction. very good family movie (pg)

Watching movies used to be my favourite hobby, now it has just become a minefield for both my husband and I.

I was also going to mention Fireproof

Despicable Me - An animated film that you should watch even if you don't have kids. Trust me if it doesn't make you laugh I will be amazed. I downloaded it for my hubby and I to watch with his 6yr old son, but we watched it before he did and we loved it. We watch it when we need cheering up, it never fails!

great russian movie called how I ended this summer. Any of the planet earth and human planet series. Really enjoyed Food Inc. also.

Totally second Absolution's Spirited away recommendation. Miyazaki is a master (but you'll find his films kind of become similar after a while) Raising Arizona might be good too. The Way Back is another great one (done by the Master and Commander director)

hmmm.. Robots was great...then there are tons of great classics. The Great Escape is excellent. Another good kids film adults might enjoy is the secret of Nimh. Chariots of Fire. God's Must Be Crazy (though there might be a brief nudity or underware scene...)

Usual Suspects. Think that's an R but doesn't have tempting stuff. Great film!

Cinderella Man
Ice Age (come on...you know u like it  )
Awakenings
Fisher King (Robin Williams runs around naked but if that ain't a turn-off I don't know what is  )
Any of the Lord of the Rings ( personally I use these to fall asleep when I don't feel well)...
