Hi everyone,
I have recently noticed that the times my temptation to act out is the greatest are almost always in the morning, right after I wake up. In fact, I could reliably say that 9/10 times this time of day is when I cave in to my addictions. The problem is that at other times throughout the day the cause of the craving can usually be isolated (boredom, anger, hunger, tiredness, etc...) however when it hits first thing in the morning its unbelievably strong, and there is no time for me to catch myself and counter it. In fact, by the time I'm fully awake I usually find that I've already caved. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with these kinds of cravings?

I have the same problem too...But I think start a day with affirmation and meditation can decrease your craving :)

I have noticed a couple of things in my recovery. First is the importance of getting plenty of sleep. I find that I am most tempted when I am tired, which is usually early in the morning and late at night. Getting 8 hours of sleep per day helps with this.

I have also found that sometimes whatever I am thinking about when I go to bed is the first thing I think about in the morning. That means if I go to bed thinking about sex, I wake up thinking about it as well. That is where it is important to meditate and clear my mind before I go to bed.

Yes Takinglifeback another member gave me similar advice as well. I too noticed that when I'm tired that increases my chances of acting out a lot. I think I will start meditating and clearing my mind before bed as well, and note down improvements (if any, which I think there will be) in my journal. Flyingclouds, your idea seems to be in a similar vein. Looks like its morning and evening meditation for me from now on :) ! Thanks very much for your help, both :)

I just relapsed today, and like you've said, it was in the morning. Mornings are incredibly difficult for me. What's helped me before - and what may help you - is to distance yourself from any triggers upon waking up. If that means keeping your phone and laptop out of the bedroom and in the kitchen, that may help. Showering often clears my mind and makes me more conscious, and I find that if I can make it to the shower without looking at porn, the rest of the day is much easier.

Wake up, stretch, meditate, shower, brush your teeth. Do all of that before entering the room your computer, TV, phone, etc. (whatever gives you access) is in. That way, you're giving yourself the best chances.

I have to agree with the last comment. My last couple of times falling were in the morning of a day off. The mind isnt working clearly yet.
If I can make it to the shower first, then I will be ok.

By then I am awake and my mind is much more clear and able to think and defend.

Hi guys,

Great advice so far.

Personally, I often try to go for a walk first thing when I wake up. Getting some sun on my skin helps me wake up, and by the time I am done I feel 100 times better. To me its like a walking meditation, and since I enjoy it, I find it easier to convince myself to do it, while my will power is still waking up :)

Alex

Unfortunatly, I have a stationary PC in my room, however, it takes forever to turn it on, so if I keep it off at night, that usually helps. And the tip about the shower helpes too. As for the walking, haven't tried but I think its a good idea. I'll try it sometime, thanks Alex :)
